We've all got people in our lives who we KNOW would benefit so much from following The Paleo Diet; our co-worker with the lingering stomach problems, our friend with the acne that won't go away or our elderly neighbor with debilitating joint pain.
We see people in passing that would fare far better as well... but how do we go about approaching the subject without being a Paleo Preacher?
It's challenging, no doubt, and ultimately, no one is going to try The Paleo Diet unless they personally want to.
However, you can always make one attempt, or maybe two, depending on how well you know someone, to share the knowledge about how cutting out grains can help clear that acne, how eliminating dairy can help relieve the constant nasal congestion and how forgoing legumes can reduce the GI distress.
Educating those close to you, or even not so close, on how to eat a better diet and follow a healthier lifestyle in order to get them to one step nearer to their optimal health, is a priceless gift you can bestow upon someone.
What better time of year that now to practice giving than now?
Share the wealth, give Paleo!
I find myself wanting to preach Paleo in the grocery store, especially. When I see a group of school-age kids chowing down on candy, I think "NOOOOOOOO!"
I'll make an effort to tell more people in my life. After all the rewards are life-changing!

Nell,
In the cookbook, some of the breakfast smoothy recipes call for "coconut oil". I bought some and was surprised to see that it's solid at room temp. It wasn't great in the smoothy because of the texture. Can I substitute coconut butter? What's the difference? Would the "butter" be more flavorful and/or have a better consistency for a smoothy?

one more question....when varying the recipes, would I replace the walnut or almond butter called for in the basic recipe if I'm using coconut butter? Too much fat?

Yes- coconut oil is solid at room temp; and DELICIOUS! : ) One of my faves, on its own or in a smoothie. You can use coconut butter, which is also quite solid. The butter has coconut oil in it, as well as some of the meat of the giant seed.

Just swap it it tablespoon for tablespoon. Its not too much fat as its only one Tbsp.

I couldnt agree more. Just saw two young girls at Starbucks each with their milkshakes (aka Frappuccinos) AND a separate, 16 oz cup filled with whipped cream. No joke. They were eating the cream with a spoon between sips of the milkshakes. Yikes!

Oh my... and the worst thing is, they have no idea what they're doing to themselves. In many ways, our ailments end up being blessings in disguise. The great thing is there is so much wonderful information on the web and I have seen a few teens posting out there.

Do you think the butter is better in a smoothy? I didn't like the way the coconut oil I used "clumped"....it was like eating wax.

Try slightly warming up the cocoa butter, stirring it and see if that helps.
